  • Look at the job description and find the essential skills and experience required to do the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and expertise necessary to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy on their team) and that you are the best person for the role.

What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have which directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

What is your greatest weakness?

  • You should not deny you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness (I am a perfectionist, or I work too hard and neglect my friends and family).  State a weakness that is required for the role but not a dealbreaker if you don’t have it.
  • When you state your weakness make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and I have enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

How did you find this job?

  • Interviewers ask this question because they want to hire someone who is being specific in their job hunt. Basically, employers want to hire someone who knows what they want. Therefore, state you have been actively monitoring for jobs on the company’s website.

What do you like most about your current or last job?

Why should we hire you as a contact centre agent?

To answer this question correctly, try and state any related work experience you have in banking or customer service and how you can apply it to the customer contact centre position. 

Example

“In my last job I worked at a communications company where I worked at a call centre.  In this role, I would answer customer inquiries, upsell customer’s other products, and answer questions they had about their billing.  During this time, I gained valuable customer service experience, sales experience, and learned to multitask while working well under pressure. I feel I can apply my experience to the role at BMO.”

How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The customer’s needs are met in a timely manner.
  • The client receives friendly service from the customer service agent. 
  • The agent is knowledgeable about the products BMO offers.

Why do you want to work at the Customer Contact Centre?

Possible answers are

  • State you feel you have strong communication skills which will help in assisting customers during their calls.
  • Mention you want the challenge of working in a fast-paced environment.
  • Say you feel you will enjoy problem-solving in regard to customer inquiries.
  • State you would like to grow your career in banking.  

What hours can you work?

  • It is your best bet to be flexible when answering this question as the job description states that all team members need to be flexible to work rotating shifts that include weekend and evening shifts.

How was your attendance at your last job?

  • Honesty is your best approach when answering this question as the interviewer may check your references.
  • Emphasize that you understand the importance of starting your shift on time.

Interview Tips

  • Arrive 10 minutes early
  • Turn off your smartphone.
  • Learn as much as you can about the company.
  • Don’t speak too fast as you will sound nervous.
  • Don’t speak too slowly as you will sound boring.
  • Make eye contact during the entire interview.
