Burger King General Manager Interview Questions and Answers

Why do you want to be a general restaurant manager at BK?

  • I enjoy coaching and mentoring others. I feel my management skills will direct all employees to increase customer satisfaction, increase sales, profitability, and employee retention.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • You want to answer this question in a way your career goals align with Burger King’s business objectives.  For example, if you say you want to become a child care professional (a commendable profession) it probably won’t align with the quick food service industry.  But if your objective is to stay in restaurant management or perhaps own your own franchise you will align yourself with BK’s business objectives.  If you are lucky enough to live in Miami Florida you can work at their head office and look at their corporate positions.

Why will you make a good general manager?

For this question, you need to re-read the job description and find skills and restate those skills.  Below are the skills I found:

  • Directs accurate preparation and sale of products. The description also states enforces compliance with government regulations such as employment laws, and food safety (skill: attention to detail).
  • Assumes full accountability for the restaurant’s profit and loss management by implementing marketing strategies (skill: accountability).
  • Leads restaurant management team in recruiting, selecting, hiring, training, and retaining effective team talent. Counsels and disciplines team members as necessary (skill: communication skills).

So when answering this question state:

  • Say you pay great attention to detail and will direct accurate preparation and sale of products.   Mention you will also pay great attention to detail when dealing with government regulations such as employment laws, and food safety.
  • State you are accountable and will accept full responsibility for profits and losses.  Mention you don’t blame others if things go wrong and learn from your mistakes.
  • Finally say you have great people skills and will be effective in training, hiring, and selecting team management.

How do you motivate others?

  • Many people will tell you motivation is about money.  I believe a raise can help motivation but I feel money is not a great motivator.   People want to be recognized for their hard work and often a simple pat goes a long way.  Depending on the individual I will praise them for their good work in front of others or as an individual.  I also try and offer promotions when necessary.

What are your salary requirements?

  • This is a difficult question. If you ask too much you will not get the job. If you ask too little you will get underpaid. The best response to this question is to ask about the salary range. When given the range you can ask for the max or just a bit under.  Have a look at salaries posted on Glassdoor for Burger King General Manager as it may help you prepare for this question.
  • Tip!!!  Note the job description states you need 2 – 4 years of restaurant, retail, or hospitality management experience. Expect to be asked behavioral interview questions like how did you deal with a difficult employee, describe a time when you increased revenue at the last company you worked for, or how did you increase employee retention.
