Burger King Team Member Interview Questions

Can you talk about your previous work experience?

  • Try and relate your previous work experience to what they are looking for in the job description. If you have any previous work experience in customer service, a cashier, cleaning, or cooking now is the time to mention it.
  • If this is your first job don’t worry about it. Burger King hires lots of first-time employees. You should state that you have been focusing all your time in school and now you are anxious to prove yourself in the workforce.

Why do you want to work as a team member?

  • Say you enjoy working with people and will enjoy working with customers. You can also state you would prefer a job that keeps you active.

Why should I hire you?

For this question, you need to re-read the job description and find the skills they are looking for. Then restate those skills to the interviewer. Skills I see are:

  • Ability to interact with customers, receive orders, process payments, and respond appropriately to customers’ issues. (skill customer focused)
  • Preparation of products as ordered by customers following the HAVE IT YOUR WAY service philosophy. (skill: attention to detail)
  • Ability to operate cash register or point of sale (pos) terminal as needed (skill: quick learner)

So when asked why should I hire you state:

  • Say you are customer-focused and will excel at interacting with customers, receiving orders, and responding appropriately to customer issues.
  • You pay great attention to detail and will be sure to execute the HAVE IT YOUR WAY philosophy.
  • State you are a quick learner and will not have any issues with the point of sale (cashier system) .

How do you feel about standing for long periods?

  • Most restaurant jobs require you to work on your feet for long periods. If possible, let the interviewer know you do not have a problem with this. Wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes with low heels, maintain good posture, and stay hydrated.

What hours can you work?

  • The more flexible you are with your hours, the better your chance of getting hired, so be flexible!
  • Let the interviewer know if you can work on weekends and holidays.

What are your long-term goals?

  • It is beneficial if you state you would like to remain in the restaurant industry. For example, if you stated you would like to get into restaurant management then you would sound like a good fit for Burger King.
  • If you do not plan on staying at Burger King for the long term that is fine, however, make sure the interviewer knows you plan on staying for more than a few months. For example, I am currently studying to be an accountant with two years left before I graduate and I am looking for employment during this time.

How was your attendance in your last job?

  • Be honest when answering this question as the interviewer may check references.
  • Emphasize that you understand the importance of starting your shift on time.

Why did you leave your last job?

Let’s first discuss what not to say!

  • Do not say anything negative about your previous employer
  • Do not say for money.
  • The commute was too long.
Example

“I enjoyed my time at my last job, but, I have outgrown my current role and I am looking for new challenges.”

Do you have any questions for us?

Tip! Don’t ask about getting a discount on food, or how much you will get paid. The job is more than likely to pay minimum wage. There are many things not to be said in an interview and you need to review them.

Questions I like are

  • What are some characteristics of your top-performing employees?
  • What training will I receive in operating the point-of-sale system?
