1. Can you tell us about your previous work experience?

  • What they want to hear is how your previous work experience matches the experience required to work there. So if you have restaurant experience, dealing with customers, or working the cash register mention that first.
  • If you don’t have any experience, say you have been focusing on school and now you are ready to prove yourself in the workforce.

2. What can you tell us about Burrito Boyz?

  • Burrito Boyz was established in 2004.
  • They are known for their burritos and quesadillas.
  • The choices are chicken, steak, veggie soy, sweet potato, bean and cheese, shrimp, haddock, and halibut.
  • Burritos come in small or large.
  • You can get Burrito Boyz cards to purchase items.

3. Why do you want to work for Burrito Boyz?

  • Say why you think Burrito Boyz is better than the competition. For example, why is it better than Mucho Burrito or better than other fast food restaurants?
  • Mention you would like a job that keeps you active.
  • Say you have great communication skills which will allow you to interact well with the customers.

4. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

5. What is your greatest weakness?

  • You should not deny you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness (I am a perfectionist, or I work too hard and neglect my friends and family).  State a weakness that is required for the role but not a dealbreaker if you don’t have it.
  • When you state your weakness make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and I have enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

6. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • Listen and let the customer vent.
  • Show the customer you care.
  • Don’t blame the customer or the company.
  • Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  • Don’t make promises you can’t keep.
  • Finally, it is important not to take it personally.  If you get upset you will take it on future customers.

7. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If going to college or university state what you would like to be doing after you finish.
  • Saying you would like a career in restaurant management will make you sound like a good fit for Burrito Boyz.

8. Why should Burrito Boyz hire you?

  • Have a second read of the job description and find the skills and experience required for the position.
  • Next, match the skills required for the job to your skill set.
  • Finally, reassure the interviewer you have the right skills.

9. What hours can you work?

  • Try to be flexible when answering this question. The more flexible you are with your hours, the better chance you will have of landing the job.
  • State you understand if you need to work weekends and holidays. 

10. How do you feel about standing for long durations?

  • Most jobs in restaurants will require you to work on your feet for long periods. If possible tell the interviewer you do not have a problem with this. Try to wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes with a low heel, maintain good posture, and stay hydrated.

11. How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The customer is not waiting long for their order.
  • Customers receive friendly service.
  • The restaurant is clean both inside and outside.
  • The product is made to order.

12. Can you tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer?

Customers love when you go above and beyond for them which will, in turn, generate more business. Try and think of a time you went above and beyond for a customer.

Here are two examples

  1. When I was a server at a restaurant we did not have a particular dessert. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it and I was able to get it for them.  
  2. In my last job, I worked at a fast-food chain and a senior citizen at the restaurant had finished his meal.  It started to rain and he was worried as he did not have an umbrella. Luckily, I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car sheltering him from the rain.

13. What motivates you?

14. Why did you leave your last job?

Interviewers ask this question for the following reasons.

  • Did you leave for a good reason?
  • Did you leave voluntarily?

  • What are your work values?

15. Questions to ask on a Burrito Boyz interview?

Interview Tips

  • Learn as much as you can about the company.
