2. What can you tell us about Cora’s?

  • Cora’s is a restaurant that is best known for serving breakfast.
  • In addition to breakfast, Cora’s serves lunch.
  • The first Cora’s opened in 1987 in Montreal as a diner.
  • As of 2023, there are over 130 franchised restaurants.
  • Cora’s is located all over Canada.
  • Cora’s charity is known as the Cora Foundation. The foundation supports and works in collaboration with non-profit organizations trying to improve the quality of life of Canadian children.

3. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have which directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

4. What is your greatest weakness?

  • You should not deny you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness (I am a perfectionist, or I work too hard and neglect my friends and family).  State a fault that is required for the role but not a dealbreaker if you don’t have it.
  • When you state your weakness make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If you want to stay in the restaurant industry state you would like to become a chef or state perhaps a restaurant manager.
  • If you are going to university tell them and mention what you plan on doing after college.

6. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • Listen and let the customer vent.
  • Show the customer you care.
  • Don’t blame the customer or the company.
  • Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  • Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

7. How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The customer is not waiting long for their order.
  • Customers receive friendly service.
  • The restaurant is clean both inside and outside.
  • The product is made to order.

8. How do you feel about standing for long periods of time?

  • If possible tell the interviewer you do not have a problem with this as most jobs in restaurants will require you to work on your feet for long periods. Try to wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes with low heels, maintain good posture, and stay hydrated.

9. What hours can you work

  • Try to be flexible when answering this question. The more flexible you are with your hours, the better chance you will have of landing the job.
  • State you understand if you need to work weekends and holidays. 

10. What motivates you?

11. How was your attendance in your last job?

  • Honesty is your best approach when answering this question as the interviewer may check your references.
  • Emphasize that you understand the importance of starting your shift on time.

12. Why did you leave your last job?

Interviewers ask this question for the following reasons.

  • Did you leave for a good reason?
  • Did you leave voluntarily?
  • Did you leave on good terms?
  • What are your work values?

The only good answer is you are not growing or learning and feel it is time to move on.

13. What did you like most about your last job?

  • Unfortunately, this can be a trick question as they may be looking for things you didn’t like in your last job.
  • The best answer is to say that you enjoyed everything about your last job, however, you feel that you have learned all you can in that role and are now looking for new challenges.

14. If you could be one animal what would it be?

Interviewers ask this question because it may reveal more about your character, or see how you operate under stress.

When you state what animal you would be, make sure to state why.

15. Questions to ask on a Cora’s Interview?
