2. What can you tell us about DavidsTea?

Interviewers ask this question to weed out applicants who are hoping to get an interview by randomly applying to hundreds of jobs. Instead, they want to meet with applicants who have done their research about the company. Here are a few facts about DavidsTea:

  • David Segal and Herschel Segal started DavidsTea in 2008.
  • DavidsTea first opened in Toronto on Queen Street.
  • Today you can select 150 different types of tea including exclusive blends, limited edition seasonal collections, traditional straight teas, and exotic infusions from around the globe.
  • DavidsTea also has a large selection of organic teas and infusions.
  • Finally, DavidsTea offers Teaware (mugs, travel mugs & tumblers, steepers, pitchers & teapots, tins & spoons, infusers & filters, and other accessories).

3. Why do you want to work for DavidsTea?

  • Tell them you love the product and you love the service you get at DavidsTea and because of this, you would be happy to represent them.

4. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that you have which directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

5. What is your greatest weakness?

  • You should not deny you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness (I am a perfectionist, or I work too hard and neglect my friends and family).  State a weakness that is required for the role but not a dealbreaker if you don’t have it.
  • When you state your weakness make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and I have enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

6. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • Listen and let the customer vent.
  • Show the customer you care.
  • Don’t blame the customer or the company.
  • Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  • Don’t make promises you can’t keep.

7. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If going to college or university state what you would like to be doing after you finish.
  • If you would like to stay at DavidsTea they have assistant store managers and store managers so perhaps you would be interested in those? There are also corporate positions on the DavidsTea website. Maybe a corporate position would interest you?

8. Why should we hire you?

To answer this question successfully, we need to revisit the job description and find key skills and attributes they are looking for. Once you have found these skills and attributes reassure the interviewer that you have these abilities. For example, suppose we were applying for the position of tea guide. The tea guide job description states:

  • 1-3 years of retail sales and/or customer service experience.
  • A friendly and upbeat personality.
  • A self-starter that consistently delivering an outstanding, personalized retail experience.
  • Willingness to learn everything about tea.
  • Proficiency with computers and Microsoft Office.

To answer this question successfully state something like:

  • Say you have experience in sales and/or customer service.
  • Mention you are a quick learner which will help you learn all the products at David’s Tea.
    State you are proficient with computers and will not have any issues using Microsoft Office.

9. Questions to ask on a DAVIDsTEA Interview?
