1. Can you tell us about yourself?

  • Talk about your hobbies, previous work experience, and education. More than likely you will be dealing with customers and you should tell the interviewer about any customer service experience you have.

2. What can you tell us about Hakim Optical?

  • The company began more than 45 years ago with Mr. Hakim grinding lenses for the Canadian wholesale market.
  • The founder learned his craft in his native Iran and grind-ed lenses in Germany and Switzerland.
  • As of 2019, Hakim Optical has over 160 showrooms and over 120 one-hour factory outlets in Ontario, Calgary, Edmonton, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Vancouver.

3. Why do you want to work for us?

  • State you enjoy working with people, state you enjoy fashion, state you have a strong interest in optometry, and a career at Hakim Optical will allow you to practice all three.

4. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

5. What is your greatest weakness?

  • It would help if you did not deny you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness. For example, do not say “I am a perfectionist” or “I work too hard and neglect my friends and family”. State a fault required for the role but not a dealbreaker if you don’t have it.
  • When you state your weakness, make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

6. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If going to college or university state what you would like to be doing after you finish.

7. Why should I hire you?

  • Have a look at the job description and find the key skills and experience required to do the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience required to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy on their team) and that you are the best person for the role.

8. Do you have any questions for us?

  • What do you like best about working here?
  • How do you describe your ideal candidate for this position?
  • What about this position is the most important?
  • How do you measure my success, and what could I do to meet your expectations?
  • Which part of the position has the steepest learning curve? What can I do to get up to speed quickly?
