3. What can you tell us about IHOP?

About iHOP

  • IHOP stands for International House of Pancakes.
  • The first IHOP was opened in Los Angeles California.
  • As of 2015, there were 1,650 IHOP restaurants in 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as in Bahrain, Canada, Dubai (UAE), Guatemala, Kuwait, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Saudi Arabia, The Philippines, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

6. Tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer?

  • Customers love it when you go above and beyond for them, which will, in turn, generate more business. Try to think of a time when you went above and beyond for a customer. For example, when I was a server at a restaurant, we did not have a specific dessert in the restaurant. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it and I got it for the customer.   
  • Here’s another example: I worked at a fast-food chain in my last job.  There was a senior citizen at the restaurant and he had finished his meal. The rain started, and he started to worry because he didn’t have an umbrella. Luckily, I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car, sheltering him from the rain.

7. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?

  • If you want to make a career at IHOP tell them you want to be a restaurant manager.
  • If you are going to school tell them what you plan on doing after graduation (this shows you have ambition)

8. Are you good at math?

  • Math at IHOP is pretty basic so even if you are not good at math, tell them you can do basic addition or subtraction to make change.

  • The more flexible you are with your hours, the better your chance of getting hired, so be flexible!

  • Dress business casually If you are interviewing for a non-management position such as a server or a cook. Do not wear shorts and avoid wearing jeans.
  • Dress formally or business casually if you are interviewing for a management position.
  • Remember you are interviewing at a restaurant so you want to look like someone who can serve food. If you have long hair wear it back and wear a limited amount of jewelry.
