3. Why should we hire you as a cashier?

For this question, you need to reread the job description, find the key skills and experience they are looking for, and convince the interviewer you have the skills and experience required for the job. 4. How would you deal with a difficult customer?

For example, when I was a server at a restaurant, we did not have a specific dessert in the restaurant. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it and I got it for the customer.   
  • Here’s another example: I worked at a fast-food chain in my last job.  There was a senior citizen at the restaurant and he had finished his meal. The rain started, and he started to worry because he didn’t have an umbrella. Luckily, I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car, sheltering him from the rain.

6. How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The staff is friendly and always willing to help the customer find what he or she needs.
  • Customers are not waiting in line for long periods at checkout.
  • The store display is well-kept and presented with adequate inventory.

10. If a customer gave you $50.00 and the item cost $29.56 how much change would you give?

  • To make change, all you have to do is take the price of the product and count up to the amount the customer gave you.

How do I prepare for a cashier interview?

  • Review potential interview questions and think about how you will answer them from your personal experience. 
  • Learn as much as possible about the company and ask why you want to work there.  Why would you rather work here than with its competitors?
  • Think about where you see yourself in the future.  For example, if you are interviewing for a position in retail can you see yourself in retail management? Companies will want to hire people who are a good fit for the industry and will last in the position for more than a few months.
