Why do you want to be a customer assistant?

Possible answers are

  • Say you enjoy working in a team.
  • State you enjoy working with customers.
  • Say you want a job that keeps you active.
  • Finally, mention if you are saving up for college and you think a job as a customer assistant is a great way to pay for school.

Can you tell us about your previous work history?

  • If you have experience in retail or maintaining inventory say that first.
  • If this is your first job don’t worry, just say you have been focusing on school and now you are ready to prove yourself in the work world.

Why should we hire you? 

Take a second look at the job description, identify the key skills they are looking for, and then match these skills to your own.  Here are the skills I found when reading the job description

  • Make sure our shelves are well-stocked at all times (skill required: attention to detail)
  • To enjoy working in a fast-paced, varied environment, hitting targets, and meeting deadlines (skill required: works well under pressure)
  • To work well in teams and take pride in a job well done (skill required: teamwork)

  • Say you pay excellent attention to detail and will always make sure the shelves are well-stocked at all times.
  • Mention you work well under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment.
  • State you work well as an individual but also do well in a team.

What hours can you work?

  • The more flexible you are with your hours, the better your chance of getting hired, so be flexible!
  • Let the interviewer know if you can work on weekends and holidays.

How do you feel about standing for long periods?

  • Most jobs in retail will require you to work on your feet for long periods. Tell the interviewer you do not have a problem with this. Wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes with low heels, maintain good posture, and stay hydrated.

Why did you leave your last job?

Interviewers ask this question for the following reasons.

  • Did you leave for a good reason?
  • Did you leave voluntarily?
  • Did you leave on good terms?
  • What are your work values?

What would you do if a customer could not find a particular item?
