1. Can you tell me about yourself?

Here’s the deal!

If you answer this question correctly you will be way ahead of the competition.

  • You want to talk most about your related work experience. If you have related work experience, you will be way ahead of the competition.
  • Suppose you were on a Lush Sales Ambassador Interview. The job description states they are looking for someone with customer service experience, someone who has worked in a team environment, and experience working in skincare or cosmetics.
  • If you don’t have related work experience, talk about past jobs, or any volunteer work you have done.
  • If you don’t have any experience say you have been focusing on school and now you are ready to prove yourself in the workforce.
  • Remember this is not the time to retell your life story!

2. What can you tell me about Lush?

About Lush

  • Mark Constantine and Liz Weir founded Lush in 1995.
  • They first started a company called Constantine & Weir which sold products to The Body Shop.
  • Eventually, they set up their own shop called Lush.
  • The head office is in Poole England.
  • Their products include creams, soaps, shampoos, shower gels, lotions, moisturizers, scrubs, masks, and other cosmetics.
  • Lush products are 100% vegetarian.
  • Customers know Lush for their bath bombs.
  • As of July 2012, Lush began selling their “Emotional Brilliance” makeup collection.

3. Why do you want to work for Lush?

  • Say you love the product and the service you get at Lush and because of this you would be happy to represent them.
  • You can state you would be proud to work for a company that does not do any animal testing.

4. Why should we hire you?

For this question, you will want to reread the job description and find the key skills and experience they are looking for and then reassure the interviewer you have those skills.


For example, suppose you are on a Sales Ambassador Interview. The job description states

So when asked why should I hire you say:

  • State you are a quick learner and will not have any problem learning about products at Lush.
  • Say you are a good listener which will help when communicating with customers.
  • Mention you are a team player and will always help other staff members.
  • Finally, say you pay great attention to detail which will ensure the store always has an inviting atmosphere with fresh products and beautiful displays.

5. When can you start?

  • The sooner the better, but if you have to leave your current job don’t be afraid to say you need to give your current employer two weeks’ notice.

6. What hours can you work?

  • The more flexible you are with your hours, the better your chance of getting hired, so be flexible!
  • Let the interviewer know if you can work on weekends and holidays.

7. What motivates you?

Possible answers are:

8. How would you define excellent customer service?

  • Employees greet the customer in a warm and friendly manner.
  • The staff is knowledgeable about the products and can answer any question the customer has.
  • The wait times at the cashier are quick.

9. How would you deal with an upset customer?

First, I would listen to the customer and see what the issue was.

  • If it was the product I would see if I could replace it (Tip! Be familiar with their return policy).
  • If it was the wait time, state you would apologize and sympathize with the customer.
  • If you didn’t know what to do state you would tell your manager for advice on what to do.

10. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

11. What is your greatest weakness?

Don’t Say

  • You don’t have a weakness
  • You can’t think of a weakness
  • Something unrelated to the job
  • Do not state a weakness that is critical for the job

  • Something related to the job
  • Steps to improve your weakness
Example

My greatest weakness is I take criticism too personally. I have learned to resist overreacting and to reflect on what someone said. I have found that I have become a better employee when I learn from feedback.

12. Why is there a gap in your resume?

  • The best approach when answering this question is to be honest because being truthful about your situation gives the employer a sense of your integrity and confidence.

13. How was your attendance at your last job?

  • Be honest when answering this question as the interviewer may check references.
  • Emphasize that you understand the importance of starting your shift on time.

What to wear to a Lush Interview

  • You want to look at the lush employee dress code and dress one step above the staff members
  • If you are interviewing for a Lush Christmas Temp or any entry-level position, dress business casual.
  • If you’re interviewing for a management position, dress formally.

Lush Hiring Party What to Expect

  • Part of the interview process includes a Lush Hiring Party.
    At the Hiring Party, you will be told about Lush Products and what the ingredients are. You will then try and sell it to other applicants.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR A LUSH INTERVIEW?

  • Learn as much as you can about the company and ask yourself why you want to work there. Why is it better than its competitors?  
  • Review potential interview questions and think about how you will answer them from your personal experience.  For example, can you tell us about a time you dealt with an upset customer?
  • Think about where you see yourself in the future.  LUSH will prefer to hire people whose career goals align with the retail industry.  Perhaps you want to get into retail management? Note if you want to work at LUSH to pay for your education that is fine but make sure you demonstrate that you are committed to working there for more than a few months.
  • Make sure you know where you are going and how long it takes to get there. Go online and work out the easiest way to get there, then be sure to add on extra time so you are on time. The last thing you want is to arrive late.
