1. Tell us about yourself?

  • Talk about your hobbies, previous work experience, and education. Keep your explanation brief and to the point. Focus on your work experience and, if possible, talk about how you work well with customers.

2. What can you tell us about Roots?

  • Michael Budman and Don Green founded Roots in 1973 in Toronto, Ontario.
  • Roots has over 120 stores in North America and offers online shopping in over 70 countries.
  • The company is known for Roots Genuine leather jackets, bags, and luggage. Roots is also known for its athletic sportswear and Roots Kids and Roots Baby Clothing. They also sell furniture, linens, towels, and accessories.

3. Why do you want to work for Roots?

  • Mention you would be proud to represent Roots as you enjoy the products and services you get when shopping there.

4. What hours can you work?

  • The more flexible you are with your hours, the better your chance of getting hired, so be flexible!
  • Let the interviewer know if you can work on weekends and holidays.

5. What is your greatest strength?

  • I am a quick learner (this is a great answer because they will have to spend less time training you) or
  • I work well with people (this is a great answer because the majority of Roots employees will work with customers).

6. What is your greatest weakness?

  • It would help if you did not deny you have a weakness or state strengths as a weakness. For example, do not say “I am a perfectionist” or “I work too hard and neglect my friends and family”. State a fault required for the role but not a dealbreaker if you don’t have it.
  • When you state your weakness, make sure you say what you are doing to overcome that weakness. For example, I have a fear of public speaking and enrolled in a public speaking class to overcome my fear.

7. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • I would find out what is wrong with the customer. If it was the product I would offer to replace it (mention you would check with Roots return policy first). It is important to keep the customer happy as an unhappy customer will never return.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If going to college or university state what you would like to be doing after you finish.
  • If you say you want to stay in retail, you will sound like a good fit for Roots.

9. Why should I hire you?

  • I work hard, I am a quick learner, and I am punctual.

10. Questions to ask on a Roots Interview?

  • What do you like best about working here?
  • How do you describe your ideal candidate for this position?
  • What about this position is the most important?
  • How do you measure my success, and what could I do to meet your expectations?
  • Which part of the position has the steepest learning curve? What can I do to get up to speed quickly?
