Sears Interview Questions and Answers

1. What can you tell us about Sears?

  • Sears is a large retail store located in Mexico, Canada, and the United States.
  • Richard Sears founded Sears in 1886 in Minneapolis.
  • In 1887, Sears moved its headquarters to Chicago IL.
  • Kmart purchased Sears in 2005.

2. Why do you want to work for Sears?

  • Mention you like the products and the service you get at Sears and because of this, you would be proud to represent them.

3. Why should I hire you?

  • Have a look at the job description and find the key skills and experience required to do the job. Reassure the interviewer that you have the skills and experience required to do the position. Note your answer needs to demonstrate that you are the solution to the employer’s problem (a vacancy n their team), and that you are the best person for the role.

4. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • Answering this question correctly is important as it shows you have ambition and are goal-oriented. Your career goals should be aligned with Sears’s business objectives. For example, stating you would like to see yourself in fashion or retail will make you sound like your career goals are aligned with their line of business.

5. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

6. What is your greatest weakness?

Seek recommends choosing something that you’ve already taken steps to improve, but isn’t mission-critical to the role.

Try to choose something that is not required to work at Barnes and Noble and that you have taken steps to improve.

For example,

  1. “I’m scared of public speaking.”
  2. “I’m self-critical.”
  3. “I don’t delegate enough.”

They also recommend the worst answers are

  1. “I’m a workaholic”
  2. “I’m a perfectionist”
  3. “I don’t have any weaknesses”

7. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • If the customer was upset because they could not find an item would find it for them and not just point them in a general direction.
  • If the customer was upset with the product I would see if I can replace it after referencing the return policy.
