1. Tell me about yourself?

  • If this is your first job you can say you have been focusing on your studies and you are now ready to prove yourself in the workforce.

  • If interested in the position of carhop state that working at Sonic sounds like a job you can have fun while working.
  • If you are going to college state that you think Sonic is a great way to pay for school.
  • State you enjoy the product and the service at Sonic and because of this, you would be proud to represent them.

4. Why did you leave your last job?

Interviewers ask this question for the following reasons.

  • Did you leave for a good reason?
  • Did you leave voluntarily?
  • Did you leave on good terms?
  • What are your work values?

7. Can you roller-skate?

  • At Sonic, carhops will roller-skate to a customer’s car, and deliver food.  If you can’t roller-skate tell them you think it would be fun and you would love to learn.  Don’t worry if you can’t roller-skate.  Roller-Skating is not a requirement at Sonic.

8. Are you good at math?

  • Any good fast-food chain will want staff that is good at making correct change for the customer.  If you are good at math make sure to tell them, if not state you have no problems doing addition and subtraction.

9. How do you deal with a difficult customer?

  • State that the customer is always right.  If the customer is unhappy with an item then mention you will replace it.  State that you would check with your manager on what action to take.

10. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If you don’t have a five-year career plan, then browse jobs on popular employment websites and find something you would love to do in five years.  Perhaps search for Restaurant Management as it is related to Sonic’s line of business.

For this question take a look at the job description and find key skills they are looking for and reassure the interviewer that you have those skills. Below is what I found after reviewing the job description

  • Taking orders and making accurate change quickly (works well under pressure)
  • Packaging all menu items and checking for product quality and consistency (attention to detail)
  • Friendly and welcoming individuals who enjoy providing pleasant and courteous service to our guests (communication)
  • A willingness to cross-train in all of the stations (quick learner)

A possible answer to this question is

  • Say you work well under pressure and will take orders quickly and accurately.
  • Mention you pay great attention to detail and will always make product quality and consistency a top priority.
  • State you are a quick learner and will have no issue learning other stations.

How do you handle criticism?

  • Say you feel you handle it well. It is important not to get offended and sit back and understand what the issue is. If you listen to constructive criticism you can learn and be better at what you do.

What hours can you work?

  • It does say the ability to work irregular hours, nights, weekends, and holidays so try and be flexible on this question.

What motivates you?
