Why should I hire you?

For this question, you need to reread the job description and find the skills they are looking for and restate those skills. After rereading the job description here is what I found:

  • As a Starbucks Barista, you will create the Starbucks Experience for our customers by providing legendary customer service (skill: communication skills)
  • Follows Starbucks operational policies and procedures, including those for cash handling and safety and security, to ensure the safety of all partners during each shift. (Skill attention to detail)
  • Maintains regular and consistent attendance and punctuality. (Skill punctual)
  • Ability to work as part of a team and ability to build relationships (skill: teamwork)

So when asked why I should hire you:

  • Say you have great communication skills which will allow you to provide the excellent customer service that Starbucks customers expect.
  • Mention you provide great attention to detail and will follow the Starbucks operational policies and procedures.
  • State you are punctual and understand the negative impact you or any other member of the staff has if they are late for their shift.
  • Finally, say you have great people skills which will you to work well in a team.

Can you tell us about your previous work history?

  • The Barista needs to have great communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work under pressure. Try and relate your previous work experience to the Barista position.
  • If you are fresh out of school with no work experience state you have been focusing on school and now you are anxious to prove yourself in the workforce.

How would you deal with a difficult customer?

  • Here are several steps to deal with an upset customer
  • Listen and let the customer vent.
  • Show the customer you care.
  • Don’t blame the customer or the company.
  • Try to solve the problem or find someone who can.
  • Don’t make promises you can’t keep.
  • Finally, it is important not to take it personally. If you get upset you will take it on future customers.

Can you tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer?

  • Customers love when you go above and beyond for them which will, in turn, generate more business. Try and think of a time you went above and beyond for a customer.
  • For example, in my last job I worked at a fast-food chain. There was a senior citizen at the restaurant and he had finished his meal. It started to rain and he was worried as he did not have an umbrella. Luckily I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car sheltering him from the rain.

How would you define excellent customer service?

  • The customer is not waiting long for their order.
  • Starbucks is clean both inside and outside.
  • The product is made to order.
  • Customers receive friendly service.
