  • Discuss the fact that you are impressed that 3M has a 15% Culture program that encourages employees to set aside a portion of their work time to proactively cultivate and pursue innovative ideas that excite them.

3. What is your greatest strength?

  • The best way to respond to this question is to describe the skills and experience that directly correlate with the job you are applying for. With this in mind, review the job description and reassure the interviewer that you have the experience and skills to do the job.

4. What is your greatest weakness?

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • Have a look at other jobs at 3M that you can see yourself doing.  If you are willing to stay at 3M for the long haul they will be willing to invest in you.

8. Tell us about a conflict at work and how you dealt with it?

  • Everyone has at least one conflict at work.  Make sure you pick a conflict with a positive outcome.

9. What are your salary requirements?

  • This is a stressful question because if you ask for too much, you will not get the job, and if you ask for too little, they will happily underpay you.
  • Be sure to research salary expectations for your role before you go into the interview. There are plenty of sites that discuss salary ranges.
  • Ask about the salary range if you don’t know what to say.  You can then counter with the high end of the range.
  • Note most entry-level jobs will pay minimum wage.

10. What motivates you?

Employers ask this question because they want to see your resiliency, and determination in how you’ll handle challenges and setbacks.

  • Interviewers ask this question because they want to hire someone specific in their job hunt.
  • Employers want to hire someone who knows what they want. Therefore, state you have been actively monitoring jobs on the company’s website and that you are happy to get the interview.
  • Note you have to be honest when answering this question as they may already know how you applied for this position.
