  • Dutch Bros was founded in 1992 by Dane and Travis Boersma in Grants Pass, Oregon. The two brothers are of Dutch descent.

6. How would you handle a situation where a coworker isn’t working as hard as you?

Example: “I consider myself to have good people skills, and I usually have a good rapport with my coworkers. When the time is right, I would assess how they are doing and kindly let them know that I feel I am doing more than my fair share of the workload. I would then try to understand their perspective and the reasons behind their lack of contribution. If the coworker needed more training, I would gladly assist. If the coworker remains non-responsive, I would discuss my concerns with the manager.”

7. Can you describe a time when you had to multitask and handle multiple customer orders simultaneously?

Example: “In my previous job, I worked at a fast-food restaurant where I took orders from customers and prepared items that were not made in the kitchen, such as coffee, soft drinks, and ice cream. I handled multiple orders directly from customers and also through the self-order kiosk. I enjoyed the challenge of multitasking and thrived when working under pressure.”

8. Can you tell me about a time when you received negative feedback from your manager? How did you handle it? 

Example: “In my previous retail job, I received feedback from my manager about overcharging a customer during a busy holiday season. Initially, I felt unfairly treated, thinking I was doing more work than my co-workers. However, I realized my manager wasn’t upset and that I was taking it too personally. I promptly apologized to the customer and thanked my manager for bringing the mistake to my attention. This experience taught me the importance of accuracy in customer transactions, even when prioritizing speed. I learned to take responsibility, value feedback, and prioritize growth.”

9. How would you deal with a difficult customer?

  1. Listen and let the customer vent.
  2. Show the customer you care.

11. Tell us about a time you went above and beyond for a customer.

  • Customers love it when you go above and beyond for them, which will, in turn, generate more business. Try to think of a time when you went above and beyond for a customer. For example, when I was a server at a restaurant, we did not have a specific dessert in the restaurant. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it and I got it for the customer.   
  • Here’s another example: I worked at a fast-food chain in my last job.  There was a senior citizen at the restaurant and he had finished his meal. The rain started, and he started to worry because he didn’t have an umbrella. Luckily, I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car, sheltering him from the rain.

Example: “Cleanliness and sanitation are not only important for the appearance of the establishment but also crucial for the well-being of the customers. In my previous position at a fast-food restaurant, I diligently followed a sanitation and cleanliness checklist to ensure the thorough completion of these tasks. I took advantage of any downtime, such as after the rush hour, to proactively clean the restaurant.”

15. How do you stay organized and prioritize tasks in a busy coffee shop setting?

Example: “I always ensure that my station is well-supplied before starting my shift or during any downtime. In a coffee shop, I typically prioritize my tasks using a first-come, first-served approach. Additionally, I maintain regular communication with my colleagues to ensure alignment and delegate tasks when necessary.”
