Roots Interview Questions and Answers

1. Tell us about yourself.

  • Talk about your hobbies, previous work experience, and education. Keep your explanation brief and to the point. Focus on your work experience and, if possible, discuss how you effectively work with customers.

2. What can you tell us about Roots?

  • Michael Budman and Don Green founded Roots in 1973 in Toronto, Ontario.
  • As of 2025, Roots has over 115 stores in North America and offers online shopping in over 70 countries.
  • The company is known for Roots Genuine leather jackets, bags, and luggage. Roots is also known for its athletic sportswear, as well as Roots Kids and Roots Baby Clothing. They also sell furniture, linens, towels, and accessories.

3. Why do you want to work for Roots?

  • Mention you would be proud to represent Roots as you enjoy the products and services you get when shopping there.

4. What hours can you work?

They ask this to understand your availability and see if it fits the needs of the workplace. Employers want people who are reliable and can work a flexible schedule when needed.

Sample Answer

“I have a flexible schedule and am available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays if required. I understand that some shifts can be busier than others, and I’m willing to be flexible to support the team when needed.”

5. What is your greatest strength?

  • I am a quick learner (this is a great answer because they will have to spend less time training you) or
  • I work well with people (this is a great answer because the majority of Roots employees will work with customers).

6. What is your greatest weakness?

Interviewers ask this to see how you think about yourself and how you handle challenges. They want to know if you can be honest without blaming others. They also want to see if you understand your own habits and how they affect your work. They are checking if you take responsibility for improving yourself. When you explain what you’re doing to get better, it shows maturity and that you can grow on the job.

Sample Answer

“My greatest weakness is that I can be too focused on getting every detail perfect. It sometimes slows me down. I’ve been working on setting clearer priorities and knowing when something is ‘good enough’ so I can stay on schedule. It’s helped me balance quality with speed.”

7. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • I would find out what is wrong with the customer. If it was the product I would offer to replace it (mention you would check with Roots return policy first). It is important to keep the customer happy as an unhappy customer will never return.

8. Where do you see yourself in five years?

  • If going to college or university, state what you would like to be doing after you finish.
  • If you say you want to stay in retail, you will sound like a good fit for Roots.
