Swiss Chalet Interview Questions and Answers

1. Tell us about yourself

This question helps the interviewer learn about your personality, work style, and customer service skills. At Swiss Chalet, they want team members who are friendly, reliable, and able to work well in a fast-paced restaurant.

Sample Answer

“I’m a friendly and hardworking person who enjoys helping customers and working with a team. I like staying busy and learning new things. In school and past jobs, I’ve learned how important it is to stay positive, be on time, and work well under pressure. I want to work at Swiss Chalet because I enjoy the restaurant environment and I think this job would help me build strong customer service skills.”

2. What can you tell us about Swiss Chalet?

Interviewers ask this question to weed out applicants hoping to get an interview by randomly applying to hundreds of jobs. Instead, they want to meet with applicants who have researched the Swiss Chalet. Here are a few facts about this company

About Swiss Chalet

  • The first restaurant was opened in Toronto in the 1950s.
  • Swiss Chalet is famous for its rotisserie chicken.
  • The restaurant is also famous for its Chalet Sauce, which is used to dip chicken, fries, ribs, rolls, perogies, or spring rolls.
  • The parent company is Cara Operations Limited.
  • Swiss Chalet has apps for both Android and iOS.
  • Customers can order takeout or delivery using their online accounts or smartphones.
  • Every Christmas, Swiss Chalet offers the Festive Special.  The Festive Special adds stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a five-pack of Lindt chocolate truffles to their quarter and full chicken dinners.

3. Why do you want to work at Swiss Chalet?

  • Mention that you love the product and the service you get, and because of this, you would be happy to represent them.
  • Say you would be proud to work for a company that is so committed to animal welfare.

4. What is your greatest strength?

  • I am a quick learner (this is a great answer because they will have to spend less time training you)
  • I work well under pressure (this is an excellent answer because all restaurants have their rush hour, and you need to stay focused during this time)

5. What is your greatest weakness?

This question helps the interviewer see if you are honest, self-aware, and willing to improve. At Swiss Chalet, managers want employees who can learn from mistakes and continue getting better on the job.

Sample Answer

“One weakness I’ve been working on is getting nervous when learning something new. At first, I sometimes worry about making mistakes. However, I’ve learned to ask questions, stay organized, and practice until I feel confident. I’ve noticed that the more experience I get, the more comfortable and confident I become.”

6. How would you deal with an upset customer?

  • I would find out what is wrong with the customer. If it was the product I would offer to replace it (mention you would check with your manager first) it is important to keep the customer happy as an unhappy customer will never return.

7. Where do you see yourself in five years?

It is ok if your career goals do not align with the restaurant industry. But make sure the interviewer realizes you are going to work there for more than a few months.

Sample Answer: “I plan to become a teacher in five years. Currently, I’m in my second year of university. Working at Swiss Chalet would be a fantastic way to support myself through school.”

8. Why should I hire you?

  • Be straightforward and confident about your abilities.
  • Highlight the reasons why you are the right candidate.
  • Be enthusiastic about why you want this job.
  • Confirm your ability to work hard.

9. What hours can you work?

  • The more flexible you are with your hours, the better your chance of getting hired, so be flexible!
  • Let the interviewer know you can work on weekends and/or holidays.

10. Describe a situation where you went above and beyond for a customer.

  • Customers love it when you go above and beyond for them, which generates more business. Think of a time when you went above and beyond for a customer. For example, when I worked as a server at a restaurant, we didn’t have a particular dessert. Luckily, the restaurant next door had it, and I got it for the customer.
  • Here’s another example: I worked at a fast-food chain in my last job.  There was a senior citizen at the restaurant, and he had finished his meal.  It started to rain, and he was worried, as he didn’t have an umbrella. Luckily, I had an umbrella, so I walked him to his car, sheltering him from the rain.

11. Do you have any questions for us?

This question helps the interviewer see if you are interested in the job and serious about working at Swiss Chalet. Asking good questions can also show that you want to learn and become a strong team member.
