1. Can you tell me about yourself?

To answer this question successfully use the past, present, and future formula.

By this I mean discuss, what you have done in the past, present, and future that will benefit Aldi.

For example, suppose you were on an Aldi Store Associate Interview. Store associates are required to have great communication skills, the ability to multi-task, and be highly organized as they will require you to manage inventory.

Here is a sample response on how to answer this question.

“In my last job, I worked at a restaurant where I worked in multiple roles. At the restaurant, I worked with customers by taking and preparing orders and managing inventory. Currently, I am studying at a business college. In the future, I would like to work in retail management.”

Here the interview sees you worked with customers, managed inventory, and were able to handle multiple roles at the restaurant (past). You are also studying business which applies to retail (present), and you have stated you would like to stay in retail (future).

2. What can you tell us about Aldi?

Interviewers ask this question to weed out applicants who are hoping to get an interview by randomly applying to hundreds of jobs. Instead, they want to meet with applicants who have done their research about the company. Here are a few facts about ALDI.

3. Why do you want to work for Aldi?

• Say you enjoy shopping at Aldi and feel the supermarket offers great value to their customers and because of this, you would be proud to represent them.
• Say you want a career in retail and feel Aldi is a great place to learn and grow your career.

4. What is your greatest weakness?

Try not to dodge the question with generic responses such as

• I don’t have any
• I work too hard and don’t take any personal time for myself.

Instead, think of a skill required for the job that you know you lack and state it. Then state how you are overcoming that weakness.

For example, my greatest weakness is my communication skills. I am overcoming this by enrolling in a public speaking course next fall.

5. What is your greatest strength?

Reread the job description and find all the skills required to do the job. Which one of those skills can you do best? Then give an example of how you have executed your best skill as found in the job description.

6. Where do you see yourself in five years?

• If you have a five-year goal now is the time to mention it. Having career goals will show you have ambition. It is beneficial if you can show how your five-year goal relates to the retail industry.
• If you don’t have a five-year goal take a look at other jobs at Aldi and see if you can find a job you can see yourself doing in five years. This will make you sound like you are committed to Aldi and they won’t waste time training you.

7. How did you hear about the position?

They want to hear what is your connection to the company and not that you just saw this job on a random job board.

• Say you were actively applying to Aldi because they have received awards from Forbes for Americans Best Large Employers in 2018, and 2017 Best and Brightest Companies to work for in the nation.
• You enjoy the products and services you get at Aldi and because of this, you would be proud to work for them.

8. Can you give me an example of when you have disagreed with your boss?

• It is okay to have conflict but what is important is how you resolve that conflict. Give an example of a conflict you had with your boss but make sure you came to a resolution.

9. What hours can you work?

• The more flexible you are with your hours the better your chances you have of getting hired at Aldi.

How to dress for an Aldi Interview

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR AN ALDI INTERVIEW?

• Learn as much as you can about the company and ask yourself why you want to work there.  Why would you work at ALDI than any other retailer?
• Review potential interview questions and think about how you will answer them from your personal experience.  
• Think about where you see yourself in the future.  ALDI will prefer to hire people whose career goals align with the retail industry.  Perhaps you want to become a general manager in retail.  Note if you want to work at ALDI to pay for your education that is fine but make sure you demonstrate that you are committed to working there for more than a few months.
