2. What can you tell us about Amazon?

About Amazon

3. What is your greatest strength?

This question is an invitation to explain why you are the best-qualified candidate for this job!

The answer should be broken down into three parts

  1. The Strength – state the strength
  2. Proof of the strength – an example of how you have used this strength.
  3. The strength’s relevance to THIS job.

DID YOU KNOW…

Studies reveal that in general the people who get hired are those who mix speaking and listening fifty-fifty in the interview. SO DON’T RAMBLE!

4. What is your greatest weakness?

  • It’s OK to state your greatest weakness, but don’t state you don’t have any weaknesses. Also, whatever you list as your greatest weakness, say how you are working on resolving it.
  • Ensure your greatest weakness is not a skill required for the position you are interviewing for.

5. Where do you see yourself in five years?

What is the biggest mistake you can make when answering this question?

The job you are interviewing for does not align with your five-year goal.

  • Suppose you are applying for the Java developer position. If you state you want to become a senior developer or manager of development, then the position you are interviewing for matches your goal. However, if you say you want to become an accountant, then the role of Java Developer is not a good fit for you.
  • Look at the Amazon Jobs page and find a job you can do in five years. This will make you sound like you are not a flight risk and a good fit for the company.

DID YOU KNOW…

Studies have revealed that when it is your turn to speak or answer a question you should not plan on speaking for more than two minutes.

6. How did you learn about the position?

Now is a great time to name-drop about anyone you know at Amazon.

  • You have a friend who told you about the position. This is a great answer; you may get a positive reference from someone inside the company.
  • I wanted to get into retail, and with Amazon being the leader in this field state, you were actively looking and applying for jobs at Amazon.

7. Name a time you disagreed with a coworker or manager, and what was the outcome?

  • It is only natural to have a conflict at work.  What is important is how you and your colleague develop a positive outcome.

Previous Work Experience

10. Can you tell us about your previous work experience?

  • Try to discuss related work experience more than non-related experience. Remember, related work experience will put you ahead of the competition!

11. Why are you leaving your current job?

Let’s first examine what not to say!

  • Don’t say you were fired!
  • Don’t display any negativity towards your coworkers!

Possible answers are:

  • I enjoyed working at my previous company; however, I no longer felt that I was growing in my current role, and I am now seeking new challenges.
  • I was in a contract position, and I completed the tasks assigned to me.

12. How would your previous manager describe you?

You don’t want to say anything negative about yourself. Sample answers are:

  • Works well under pressure.
  • A Team Player.
  • Pays great attention to detail.
  • Good communicator.

13. Why is there a gap in your resume?

Employers ask this to understand your work history and make sure the gap wasn’t due to anything that would affect your reliability or performance. They’re not necessarily judging the gap itself; they just want to know what you were doing during that time and if you’re ready to return to work. They also use this question to check honesty, attitude, and how you explain your situation under pressure.

Sample Answer

“I took some time away from work to focus on personal priorities and reset. During that time, I stayed productive by working on personal development and staying organized with my goals. I’m now fully ready and motivated to return to work and commit to a consistent schedule. I’m looking forward to contributing, learning, and being reliable in a team environment.”

Additional Interview Questions

  • Be sure to research salary expectations for your role before the interview. Plenty of sites discuss salary ranges.
  • Ask about the salary range if you don’t know what to say. Then, counter with the high end of the range.
  • Note that most entry-level jobs will pay minimum wage.

Interviewers ask this to understand what pushes you to do your best at work. They want to see if you stay positive, work hard, and enjoy helping customers and teammates.
