  • State you love the product and the service you get at Waitrose, and because of this, you would be proud to represent them.

10. How would you deal with an upset customer?

Interviewers ask this to see if you can stay calm under pressure and handle real customer service situations without making things worse. They want to know if you can listen, show respect, and solve problems while keeping a positive attitude.

Sample answer

“If I had an upset customer, I would stay calm and listen carefully to what they’re saying without interrupting them. I would acknowledge their concern so they feel heard, and I would apologize if something went wrong, even if it wasn’t directly my fault. Then I would focus on finding a solution that fits the situation, like fixing the order, offering an alternative, or getting a manager if needed. My goal would be to resolve the issue quickly while staying polite and making sure the customer leaves feeling respected.”

11. How do you feel about standing on your feet for long periods?

Interviewers ask this to understand how you handle physical work and long shifts. They want to see if you know what the job is really like and if you can manage the physical demands. They also want to check your attitude. They are looking for someone who stays positive and dependable even when the work gets tiring. When you show that you can handle it and have a plan to stay comfortable, it tells them you’ll be reliable on the job.

“I’m comfortable standing on my feet for long periods. I know it can get tiring, but I stay active, wear good shoes, and take small stretch breaks when allowed. I’ve done similar work before, and I manage it well.”

12. Why did you leave your last job?

  • The commute was too long.

“I enjoyed my time at my last job, but, I have outgrown my current role and I am looking for new challenges.”

13. How was your attendance in your last job?

This question helps employers see if you are dependable and responsible. They want workers who show up on time, follow their schedule, and can be counted on.

Sample Answer

“My attendance at my last job was very good. I made sure to arrive on time, follow my schedule, and give notice if there were any issues. I understand how important reliability is, especially when working as part of a team.”

14. What did you like most about your last job?

  • Unfortunately, this could be a trick question where they ask about things you didn’t like in your previous job.
  • The best answer is that you enjoyed everything about your last job; however, you feel you have learned all you could in that role and are now looking for new challenges.

  • What do you like best about working here?
  • How do you describe your ideal candidate for this position?
  • What about this position is the most important?
  • How do you measure my success, and what could I do to meet your expectations?

Why do you want to be a delivery driver?

  • Say you would like to work in a fast-paced environment and would enjoy working with people, and a job as a delivery driver will allow you to do both.         

Why should we hire you as their delivery driver?

Possible answers to this question are

  • Say you have great communication skills, which will allow you to work well with customers and co-workers.
  • State that you pay close attention to detail and will always ensure the customer receives their order correctly the first time.
  • Mention that you work well under pressure

How is your driving record?

  • Hopefully, you have a clean driver record.  If you have been in an accident, tell the interviewer what happened and what you learn from it.

What would you do if you were stuck in traffic and had a time-sensitive delivery?

  • State that you feel heavy traffic is out of your control and would continue to drive safely.  Also, mention that you would call your supervisor if you were unable to make the delivery on time.

Waitrose Night Shift Interview

How do you feel about working nights?

The more flexible you can be with your hours, the better chance you have at getting the job, so be flexible! Perhaps working nights is beneficial to your personal life, and if so, let the interviewer know.

Why should we hire you?

If possible, discuss any experience you have working at a supermarket, managing inventory (stocking shelves), and how you worked well in a team.  You can also mention skills you have, such as communication, working well under pressure, organizational skills, and attention to detail.  

Have you ever been late for a shift?  What was the reason?

Everyone has been late for a shift, but make sure you have a good reason.  State that you called your boss ahead of time to let her know that you will be late.  

How do you feel about standing for long periods and lifting?

You may be required to stand for long periods or lift heavy items.  Ideally, you should tell the interviewer you have no problem doing this.
